Atlanta Hawks forward Gustavo Ayon left the team's preseason opener on Monday night against the Miami Heat in the first quarter with a right shoulder injury.
As reported by the Associated Press through NBA.com, late in the first quarter Ayon was chasing a rebound and collided with Heat guard Norris Cole . Upon colliding, Ayon twisted his arm, then grabbed his shoulder and elbow. While he headed for the Hawks' locker room, he was clutching his wrist.
Ayon's preseason appearance lasted only 4 minutes before the injury. He attempted only one shot and had one rebound in his limited time on the court.
Ayon played in 54 games during his rookie season of 2011 - 2012. He averaged 5.9 points and 4.9 rebounds in 20 minutes of action per game. Last year, he appeared in 55 games and averaged 3.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.
