Nets’ Brook Lopez expected to be healthy by training camp

Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez broke out last season, averaging 19.4 points to lead all NBA big men on his way to his first All-Star Game. However, his summer got off to a rough start, as it was confirmed that Lopez required surgery on his right foot for the third time in less than two years. Lopez was recently able to shed his walking boot and resume workouts, and he told Tim Bontemps of The New York Post that he expects to be ready in time for Nets’ training camp, which begins in September.
“I feel great,” Lopez said. “I have been getting in some weight lifting, getting shots up and everything is going well. I’m not fully working out. I’m not jumping or running or anything like that, but we have a good month-and-a-half just until training camp starts, so we’ll definitely be all right by then.”
While the foot injury has hampered Lopez over the past two seasons, he thinks that he’ll be able to get past it following what he hopes to be his final surgery.

By adding the likes of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry this offseason, the Nets are clearly hoping to contend in the East. Brooklyn is counting on Lopez to once again be a major contributor to that effort, and, at least at this point, it appears he’ll be ready to do so by the time the regular season rolls around.
