Marvin Williams could rejoin Jazz by training camp

Utah Jazz forward Marvin Williams will make $7.5 million in the final season of his current contract. As such, he’s hoping to post solid numbers to bolster his next contract, but he’s currently listed as a reserve with the Jazz, and beyond that he’s coming off a major Achilles injury. While it remains to be determined what type of player he will be following the significant injury and extended downtime, David Lock of Locked on Jazz reports Utah could get Williams back by training camp or early November.

Early November would be a few weeks into the season. That seems to be a worst-case scenario for Locke, but there is still plenty of time for setbacks between now and November.

Even when he’s back with the team, it’s unclear how he’ll be utilized. He continues to struggle shooting from the field, meaning he’s not a great option at the three, but he’s a bit undersized for an NBA four.

Considering the Jazz aren’t expected to compete this season, Williams should get a shot to show what he can do. Beyond his production on the court, Williams will also have to deal with the effects of his Achilles injury. It’s to be determined how it will impact him, but, if all goes well in his recovery, it looks like he could get a chance at the start of the season to show us.
