Celtics’ Jared Sullinger hopes Rajon Rondo will ‘be back by December’

There have been several projected timeframes involving Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo’s return from ACL surgery. Another estimate was thrown out over the weekend, as Rondo’s teammate, Jared Sullinger, told WSYX Columbus that he’s hopeful the guard will “be back by December.”
"He's back working out again and hopefully he'll be back by December," said Sullinger.
President of basketball operations Danny Ainge has said publically that Rondo wants to return from surgery by training camp and be in the team’s starting lineup on opening night. Others have projected that the point guard will miss the first month of the regular season.

For his part, Sullinger has been going through a lot of rehab this offseason himself, as he returns from back surgery that ended his 2012-13 campaign. There’s thought that he and Rondo have shared time together at the Celtics’ training facilities, which could give him a better idea than most as far as a timeframe for return goes.

However, there’s still plenty of time between now and the start of training camp and the regular season. As such, there’s plenty of time for projections to change depending on how Rondo handles his upcoming rehab hurdles and if he suffers any setbacks.

Whatever the case, the Celtics would do well not to rush Rondo back considering they are entering the 2013-14 season as a team in rebuilding mode. With the departures of Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Doc Rivers, Rondo is now the face of Boston’s franchise, so they should be giving him whatever time he needs to come back healthy.
