The Boston Celtics cleared forward Jared Sullinger for full basketball-related activities last week, and the second-year pro told reporters – including Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe – that he expects to be ready by the start of training camp.

Approaching the 2012 NBA Draft, Sullinger’s stock fell hard given the injury issues that surrounded him, specifically his back. The Celtics rolled the dice late in the draft, and Sullinger showed promise before his season was prematurely ended by back surgery.
Considering the lack of talent late first-round draft picks can often offer and the relative gamble they are, the Celtics did well with Sullinger despite his back injury. Boston is hoping the big man can return and contribute similar numbers to what he did last season, 6.0 points and 5.9 rebounds per game prior to his injury.
