After free agent center Greg Oden worked out in front of several interested teams, word spread that a signing was imminent. The big man remains on the open market, but there was speculation that he could be interested in joining a contender such as the Miami Heat that can offer him a defined role. However, his agent, Bill Duffy, told Steve Aschburner of NBA.com that he’s looked at “all the scenarios,” including ones that would put Oden with a rebuilding team so as to ease his level of pressure.
“We’ve looked at all the scenarios,” Duffy said Friday. “There might be less pressure if he tries this with a team that’s rebuilding. Then again, the quality of the medical staff will matter. Maybe a winning team has chemistry that’s good or his role would be clearly defined.”
Most believe that money will ultimately determine where Oden lands, as he could look to get as much cash as he can in case his comeback attempt fails and this is his final NBA contract. However, there might be something to be said regarding his level of interest in joining a team that’s not as much in the spotlight, especially considering his agent was so open about the possibility.
Beyond the Heat, the New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs, Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks were the teams to reportedly attend Oden’s workout.
