Indiana Pacers assistant coach Brian Shaw has garnered significant attention from teams in need of a new head coach over the past few seasons. He’s turned down offers in the past – including the opportunity to coach the Charlotte Bobcats –in hopes of joining a contender. He could have an opportunity to do just that this summer, and Vincent Goodwill of The Detroit News reports that he has his sights set on becoming the next coach of the Los Angeles Clippers.
Shaw was formerly an assistant and player for the Los Angeles Lakers, so he may be more comfortable heading back to LA. The Clippers are also coming off one of their best seasons in franchise history and have a roster that could include Blake Griffin and Chris Paul for the foreseeable future, depending on what Paul does this offseason.
If not the Clippers, the Detroit Pistons and Philadelphia 76ers have also expressed interest in Shaw. However, it’s not clear if he would continue to hold out for a contender and instead opt to return as an assistant with the Pacers.
