Nets rumors: Phil Jackson turns down Brooklyn

It was reported yesterday that the Brooklyn Nets extended an offer to Phil Jackson to replace P.J. Carlesimo as the team's next head coach. It was considered a long shot, and it appears that Jackson has turned down the offer. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, Jackson told the Nets that he has no interest in the team's coaching vacancy.

Wojnarowski adds that Jackson still seems to be more interested in joining a team in a management position -- think Pat Riley and Jerry West -- rather than resuming his coaching career.

Still, as evidenced in his almost deal with the Los Angeles Lakers last year, it would appear that Jackson would be willing to return to coaching in special circumstances. He didn't consider the Nets to be this sort of opportunity, but Brooklyn has said that they'd be willing to bring him on in a front office role.

The rumors surrounding Jackson figure to continue until he either joins a team in some capacity or next season begins, whichever comes first.
