NBA rumors: Dwight Howard interested in Rockets

It’s clear that the Los Angeles Lakers hope to re-sign center Dwight Howard this summer, but it’s not a sure bet that the interest is mutual. It doesn’t seem like the situation will be resolved quickly, as league sources told Ken Berger of CBS Sports that Howard plans to give strong consideration to multiple teams.

This makes the Lakers’ re-signing of Howard far from a done deal, according to Berger. He adds that the team that is said to intrigue Howard the most is the Houston Rockets. Players in Houston that would figure to appeal to Howard include James Harden, Chandler Parsons, Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin, and coach Kevin McHale is defensive-minded.

The Rockets are in a flexible enough position that they could do what’s needed to create room to sign Howard. Beyond Houston, another Texas team – the Dallas Mavericks – is also said to intrigue Howard.

While the big man can receive his most lucrative free agent contract from the Lakers, it doesn’t appear a lock that he returns to Los Angeles. Whatever the case, it looks like it should be an interesting free agency period for Howard.
