Los Angeles Clippers can Vinny Del Negro

The Los Angeles Clippers rewarded head coach Vinny Del Negro for completing one of the best seasons in team history by releasing him yesterday. Following the team’s first-round playoff exit, the Clippers elected to part ways with Del Negro, according to ESPN.

Del Negro was in the final year of his current contract, which expires in June. The Clippers will not renew his deal, meaning they’ll begin their search for a new coach.

While the Clippers admitted it was a difficult decision to fire Del Negro, they believe it is in the best interest of the team moving forward.
"This was a difficult decision, but we feel this is the best decision for our franchise moving forward," said Gary Sacks, the Clippers' vice president of basketball operations.
Del Negro remained optimistic the Clippers would bring him back for at least another season, and he was reportedly surprised by the decision. Los Angeles will now begin their search for their next head coach, and the list of candidates they are expected to give strong consideration to include Brian Shaw, Byron Scott, Alvin Gentry and Mike Malone.
