Hawks name Mike Budenholzer as head coach

The Atlanta Hawks have named Mike Budenholzer as their next head coach, the team has announced. Budenholzer has spent the past 19 seasons as a coach with the San Antonio Spurs.
“We are thrilled to have Mike as the next coach of the Atlanta Hawks. He has an incredible basketball acumen and has a keen awareness of the league and what it takes to be successful," Ferry said. "His experience and four championships over the last 17 years provide a tremendous foundation for his leadership of our team.”
For the last six seasons, Budenholzer was the Spurs’ No. 1 assistant coach to Gregg Popovich.

The Hawks have been in the market for a new head coach since they recently parted ways with Larry Drew. This season, Atlanta finished with an overall record of 44-38, which was good enough for sixth place in the Eastern Conference.
