Grizzlies’ Tayshaun Prince suffers hip injury

Memphis Grizzlies forward Tayshaun Prince sustained a hip injury during the team’s Game 1 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Prince told reporters – including the Memphis Commercial Appeal – that he expects to be OK for Game 2.

Initially, it was thought that Prince had suffered a back injury, but he later clarified that he was dealing with a hip ailment. He received treatment for the injury just before halftime, and he was ultimately able to return for the Grizzlies in the second half.

Over 35 minutes of action, Prince scored nine points on 4-of-10 shooting – including 1-of-4 from three-points range – with five rebounds and two assists. The severity of the injury isn’t known at this time, so the team is considering him day-to-day.

Since Prince was able to return to the game after receiving treatment prior to the half, he would appear to be a safe bet to play in Game 2. The Grizzlies will attempt to even the series tomorrow night.
