Clippers’ Chris Paul has bruised thumb; expected to play

Most of the spotlight surrounding the Los Angeles Clippers has focused on Blake Griffin’s high ankle sprain, but there is another key player hampered by injury. Point guard Chris Paul was diagnosed with a bruised left thumb following Tuesday’s Game 5 matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies, according to Arash Markazi of ESPN Los Angeles.

Paul injured his thumb when it got caught on the jersey of Grizzlies forward Quincy Pondexter during the first half of Tuesday’s game. He was later seen with the thumb heavily wrapped, but he and coach Vinny Del Negro told reporters that the injury wasn’t a big deal. Despite the ailing thumb, Paul is expected to suit up for Friday’s Game 6.

"I'm cool, I'm good," Paul said. "I hit myself."
"He'll be fine," Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said Wednesday.

Los Angeles is set to go through a light workout today after not practicing yesterday. They trail the Grizzlies 3-2, meaning they’ll need a win Friday to keep their playoff run alive.
