Bulls without Luol Deng, Kirk Hinrich, Derrick Rose in Game 3 loss

As expected, the Chicago Bulls entered their Game 3 matchup against the Miami Heat without forward Luol Deng or guards Kirk Hinrich and Derrick Rose. While they still put up a fight, the Bulls ultimately dropped last night’s contest to go down 2-1 in the best-of-seven series.

Coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters – including USA Today – that Chicago would be without Deng, Hinrich and Rose yesterday morning. Entering the day, Deng and Hinrich were listed as doubtful to play, while there had been rumors surrounding Rose’s potential return. However, as of Thursday Thibodeau said nothing had changed regarding Rose’s status, and he wasn’t expected to be available either.

Deng has now missed five games in a row after complications related to a recent spinal tap. Hinrich’s been out six straight games since suffering his severely bruised calf. Rose, of course, has been out the entire season after sustaining his significant knee injury during last season’s playoffs.

A recent MRI on Hinrich’s calf showed basically the same as the initial scan did. Still, the guard is said to be feeling better. Deng dropped 15 pounds during his hospital stay, and he would seem to have a ways to go before returning to playing strength.
