Bulls' Luol Deng undergoes spinal tap; misses Game 6

Chicago Bulls forward Luol Deng missed practice Wednesday due to illness. It was apparently severe, as he underwent a spinal tap yesterday to test for viral meningitis, according to Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today.

Deng's test came back negative, and he hoped to play for the Bulls during Game 6 against the Brooklyn Nets. However, he was deemed too sick to suit up, and Chicago sent him home 90 minutes before tipoff.

"He was in the facility in the morning and got treatment," coach Tom Thibodeau said. "Came in this evening and got more treatment. I didn't find out until about an hour, hour and a half before the game."

The Bulls already knew they'd be without guard Kirk Hinrich -- who's missed time due to a severe calf injury. However, Taj Gibson and Nate Robinson were also battling flu-like symptoms.

Like Deng, Gibson missed practice Wednesday, but he and Robinson were able to suit up last night. Gibson was mostly ineffective, fouling out with three points and three rebounds in 18 minutes. Robinson -- who's reportedly been sick for "a while" -- scored 18 points and added four assists.
