Wizards’ Martell Webster could be shut down for season

Washington Wizards guard Martell Webster removed himself from the third quarter of Wednesday’s loss to the Miami Heat due to his abdominal injury, which could wind up sidelining the sharpshooter for the remainder of the season, according to J. Michael of CSN Washington.

Webster described the abdominal injury – which has been ailing the guard for the past month – as “super-sore.”

“It’s super-sore. It’s one of those times where I got to kind of shut it down,” he said after playing 26 minutes and making only 2 of 7 shots. “My arms were moving faster than my legs. That was a sign I didn't want to make it any worse so I decided to come out.”

Webster – a free agent-to-be – said that he is “going to exhaust every avenue before” making a decision to shut things down for the remainder of the season. Coach Randy Wittman told reporters that Webster and Trevor Ariza aren’t expected to play Friday against the Philadelphia 76ers, while the Wizards are already without guard Bradley Beal.
