Steve Nash is still battling a hip injury. The Los Angeles Lakers' point guard sat out last night's game against the Dallas Mavericks with the hip strain. It didn't matter much, though, as the Lakers beat the Mavs 101-81.
Mike Trudell of NBA.com says Nash sat out because of the hip and Blake was to get the start in his place - which he did. Blake has been the Lakers' go-to back up when Nash has been out. He battled an injury early in the season himself and was part of numerous trade rumors, but he's made himself invaluable.
Nash's injury is not expected to keep him out long, but so far he has missed just the Mavericks' game in full. He played only two minutes on Saturday, though. Nash will be an important part of the Lakers' offense down the stretch. He is averaging 12.7 points and 6.7 assists per game this season.
The Lakers moved to 39-36 on the season with the win. They are in a tie with the Utah Jazz for the eighth and final playoff spot. If the season ended today, the Jazz would have the edge and make it into the postseason while the Lakers would go home.
