Spurs Boras Diaw out 3-4 weeks after back surgery

San Antonio Spurs forward Boris Diaw underwent successful back surgery to remove a synovial cyst from his lumbar spine, the team has announced. The procedure is expected to carry with it a recovery period of three to four weeks.

The Spurs initially announced that Diaw would miss two to three weeks due to the surgery, but it’s since been determined that more time will be required. Still, it’s not considered serious, as Diaw is poised to return sometime after the first round of the playoffs.

Early in the playoffs, San Antonio will have to rely on DeJuan Blair and also Matt Bonner to fill in for Diaw.

Prior to undergoing surgery, Diaw had appeared in 75 games for the Spurs this season. During his time with the team, the forward averaged 5.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 22.8 minutes per game.
