Point guard Ty Lawson returned to the Denver Nuggets’ lineup
last night for their contest against the Dallas Mavericks.
Lawson had missed the previous five games with a right foot injury. He didn’t get the start – as Andre Miller continued filling that role for the time being – but he did get roughly 20 minutes of playing time off the bench. He is expected to play over the team’s final four games of the regular season.
The Nuggets need Lawson to improve their chances in the playoffs, as he’s currently leading the team with 16.7 points and 6.9 assists per game. He was shelved for all but one of the team’s previous nine games due to his injury, and it was clearly impacting his play. He’s been dealing with a right plantar fasciitis tear, which generally takes time and immobilization to heal.
It will be interesting to see what level Lawson is able to return to prior to the playoffs. The Nuggets are hoping to have the old Lawson back, but the injury could also linger and continue to impact him.
