As expected, Danilo Gallinari of the Denver Nuggets has been
diagnosed with a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season, the team
There were initial leaks that Gallinari would be out for the rest of the year due to the injury, but the Nuggets made the news official yesterday. If there is good news to be had in this, the team did say that no other torn ligaments or meniscus damage was found when the torn ACL was revealed.
Following the announcement, the Nuggets released the following statement regarding Gallinari:
“We’re extremely disappointed for Gallo. He was having a career year in scoring and rebounding and was a huge reason for our success,” Nuggets executive vice president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri said in a released statement. “We will obviously support him and be there for him throughout his recovery. Knowing his work ethic and commitment to getting back on the floor, we are confident he will come back stronger than ever next season.”
The injury is expected to cause Gallinari to miss at least a portion of next season, too. In his absence, Wilson Chandler and Corey Brewer are expected to see increased minutes. The duo has played well, but Gallinari will be hard to replace, as he’s averaged 16.1 points per game this season.
