Lakers to reduce Kobe Bryant’s minutes

The Los Angeles Lakers have called on Kobe Bryant to help carry the team in their attempt to claim a playoff spot in the Western Conference. However, with the return of Metta World Peace, coach Mike D’Antoni told reporters – including Mike Bresnahan of The Los Angeles Times – that he will attempt to lessen Bryant’s minutes in preparation for the postseason.

The Lakers took control of the No. 8 spot in the West last night by defeating the New Orleans Hornets. There are still regular season games to be played, meaning Los Angeles will have to fend off other teams for the right to enter the postseason.

However, D’Antoni is likely to rest Kobe in order to have his best player fresh for the upcoming postseason. Bryant has averaged more than 46 minutes per game over the Lakers’ last four contests, so lessening the All-Star’s minutes still figures to see him playing a significant portion of the game. Whatever the case, I know I wouldn’t want to be the one to tell Kobe to get off the court.
