Lakers’ Steve Nash could return Wednesday

While Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Nash didn’t suit up last night for the team’s contest against the San Antonio Spurs, coach Mike D’Antoni told reporters – including Sam Amick of USA Today – that the veteran could return to play in the team’s regular season finale on Wednesday against the Houston Rockets.

Nash has been sidelined since March 30 due to a hip and hamstring injury. His return becomes all the more important considering the recent injury to Kobe Bryant, which will sideline the All-Star for the remainder of the season. He will be counted on in the playoffs to create shots for other scorers – including Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard.

Injuries have plagued Nash throughout the season, but he’s hoping to return healthy for the Lakers’ attempt at a playoff run. When he’s been healthy enough to play, Nash has averaged 12.7 points and 6.7 assists per game while shooting 49.7 percent from the field – including 43.8 percent from three-point range.
