Lakers’ Metta World Peace, Steve Nash out for Game 4

The Los Angeles Lakers are once again going to be shorthanded against the San Antonio Spurs, as you can officially add Metta World Peace to the team’s long list of players that will be sidelined due to injury. Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni told reporters – including Dave McMenamin of ESPN Los Angeles – that World Peace wanted to “give it a go” for Game 4, but the team elected to rule him out.

World Peace told his Twitter followers that he appreciates the support, adding that he expects LA to come out with the win and extend the series against the Spurs.

"I appreciate everyone supporting my efforts on trying to finish the season on top and contribute to the team," World Peace said in a video he posted to his Twitter account Saturday. "I guess I have to finish the season on top in a different way. I won't be able to play Sunday, but it's OK. We're going to come out with the victory and then we'll move on from there. Hopefully, I can get back when we get to San Antonio."

World Peace admitted that he may not play in Game 4 earlier this week after he struggled during Game 3. He’s hoping that he’ll be able to return in time for Game 5, assuming the Lakers advance past tonight.

Los Angeles will also be without their top four guards, as Jodie Meeks and Steve Nash are listed as out for Game 4. Nash has been battling hip and hamstring injuries, while Meeks has been hampered by an ankle ailment.

Considering the Lakers already knew they’d be without Kobe Bryant and Steve Blake, the team is posting an expected lineup that contains Pau Gasol, Dwight Howard and three relative unknowns – Darius Morris, Andrew Goudelock and Earl Clark.
