Hornets rumors: New Orleans still likely to trade Eric Gordon

New Orleans Hornets guard Eric Gordon was recently benched by the team following a heated exchange with coach Monty Williams. This has resulted in continued speculation that Gordon will eventually be traded by the Hornets. New Orleans was unable to unload Gordon this season, but they are “still likely to remain open to trading him after the season,” according to John Reid of NOLA.com.

The Hornets were unable to pull off a trade involving Gordon before the February trade deadline, but the franchise is still likely to remain open to trading him after this season ends, according to sources Saturday.

Gordon was the centerpiece of the trade that sent point guard Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers. He’s managed to lead the team in scoring, but he’s also had several issues with team leaders and coaches, and turned himself off to fans during the whole Phoenix Suns fiasco. For these reasons, Gordon is expected to be shopped throughout the offseason, despite his talent.

While Hornets appear to want to trade Gordon, actually doing so could prove difficult, according to Kurt Helin of Pro Basketball Talk. Helin believes that New Orleans will have a hard time trading the guard since he's still owed another $45 million over the next three years.
