The New York Knicks were once again without Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler on Monday night. Anthony is nursing a knee injury while Chandler is battling a sore neck. He has been diagnosed with a neck strain, but the club will send him for an MRI.
According to Jared Zwerling of ESPN New York, Chandler has bone spurs in his neck. An X-ray confirmed this, but the Knicks want to make sure there is no further damage, so Chandler will get an MRI. The injury is a big blow for New York as they will need Chandler's defense going forward.
New York was able to overcome the absence of some of their key players and beat the Utah Jazz last night, but the Knicks have been struggling of late. With injuries, and a regression on the defensive side of the ball, the Knicks are no longer shooting for the number one seed in the Eastern Conference. They'll have to settle for the third seed or second seed at best.
Chandler can help the Knicks' defense when healthy. He's a rebounding machine and a shot-blocking presence. This season, Chandler has averaged 11.0 rebound and 1.15 blocks per game.
