Spurs lose Tony Parker to sprained ankle

The San Antonio Spurs easily handled the Sacramento Kings last night, but they lost leading scorer and assist man Tony Parker to a sprained ankle in the process. Head coach Gregg Popovich told reporters that he expects the guard to be “out a while.”

"He'll be out a while; it's a good one," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "He's been a stalwart for us. He's having an All-Star season. As I've said, he's playing better than any other point guard in the league consistently through the year. We will miss him."

Parker was injured while driving straight down the lane for a scooping layout late in the third quarter. He came down hard on his left ankle and rolled it outward. He immediately fell to the ground and reached for his ankle, and he was eventually assisted off the court and taken straight to the locker room.

No matter how much the Spurs have dealt with injuries this season, the loss of Parker is huge. The 30-year-old has averaged 21 points, 7.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds this season.
