The Spurs are among the teams with interest in Hawks forward Josh Smith, a source told Yahoo! Sports. Keep in mind, Hawks general manager Danny Ferry was previously with the Spurs.
The Hawks are reportedly taking trade offers for Smith, who’s in the final year of his contract. However, Atlanta has left the door open on the possibility of re-signing Smith.
If the Hawks were to ship Smith to the Spurs, Kurt Helin of Pro Basketball Talk believes they would need a package of Stephen Jackson – $10 million expiring contract – Kawhi Leonard and a young point guard and/or draft pick. Still, even this may not be enough to pry Smith from Atlanta.
So far this season, Smith has averaged 17.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.1 blocks per game. Beyond the Spurs, the Brooklyn Nets have also been tied to Smith.
