Detroit Pistons rookie Andre Drummond will miss four to six
weeks of action due to a stress fracture in his back, reports Adrian Wojnarowski
of Yahoo! Sports.
Drummond sustained his back injury when he was attempting to
block a shot during Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Pistons took Drummond with the 9th-overall
pick in last year’s NBA Draft. He’s averaged 7.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.4
blocks per game in his first year with the club. His minutes have increased
throughout the season as he’s shown to have the potential ability to be a “dominant
center in the NBA,” according to Wojnarowski.
While general manager Joe Dumars has said the Pistons are “investigation
available short-term replacements” for Drummond, the 19-year-old’s injury is
likely to allow Russian rookie center Slava Kravtsov an opportunity to earn
more minutes.
