NBA Rumors: Dirk Nowitzki wants another contract with Dallas

Dirk Nowitzki understands his career is slowly drawing to a close, but he still has something to contribute.  He wants to contribute for the Dallas Mavericks.  Nowitzki thinks that once his current contract is up, he'll sign for another couple years in Dallas.

According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN Dallas, Nowitzki thinks he will be with the Mavericks through at least the 2015-16 season.  Despite his knee injury, his slow recovery, and the Mavericks' struggles this season, Nowitzki wants to keep playing in Dallas.

"When my [current] contract's up, I'm 36 and I'll definitely sign a couple more years," Nowitzki said. "It's still fun, but I don't know if I'll play until 40. But when I'm 36, definitely sign one more deal, maybe two or three years."

Nowitzki has spent his entire career in Dallas.  He wants to retire a Maverick.  And the team will probably make sure this happens.  Although this season has been a disappointment, Nowitzki helped lead the Mavericks to an NBA Championship and has been a big part of Dallas' success over the years.

In his career, Nowitzki has averaged 22.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.  So far this season, Nowitzki is averaging 16.0 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
