There have been rumors that the Los Angeles Lakers may attempt to trade Dwight Howard prior to the this month’s deadline, but the team
has told the center that they’re not going to move him, reports Brett Pollakoff
of Pro Basketball Talk.
Howard said that he was told by Lakers’ general manager
Mitch Kupchak that he wouldn’t be traded. He said that he’d be “surprised” if a
trade was agreed upon prior to this month’s deadline.
“They told me they weren’t going to trade me,” Howard said. “I’d be surprised. They told me they wouldn’t trade me. That’s what [Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak] said.”
While the Lakers aren’t expected to trade Howard, he’s not ready to commit to remaining in Los Angeles beyond the current season. He told
reporters that he hopes to keep his options open for when the end of the current
campaign rolls around.
Howard has dealt with a shoulder injury over the first half of the season, but he’s still managed to total 16.3 points, 11.8 rebounds and
2.3 blocks per game.
