Prior to yesterday’s game against the Detroit Pistons, it
was speculated that Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard would suit up
despite recently undergoing a procedure on his injured shoulder. Despite the
reports, Howard was not in the Lakers lineup yesterday as he continues to nurse
his injured shoulder.
Howard underwent Platelet-rich plasma therapy on his sore right shoulder on Friday. This is supposed to help accelerate the healing process.
Howard and the Lakers are hoping that rest and similar procedures help the
center avoid more extensive surgery on his shoulder.
It was initially speculated that Howard would more likely
return for the Lakers’ matchup Tuesday against the Brooklyn Nets rather than
try and rush back for yesterday’s game. While it appears he tried to suit up,
Howard and the team decided it was best to give him the extra few days to rest
and recover rather than rush back against the Pistons.
