The Boston Celtics can't catch a break. They lost their star point guard, Rajon Rondo, to a torn ACL. Now, as the team has found a way to continue winning, they have lost another guard to a knee injury. Leandro Barbosa went down after driving to the basket and making a pivot move.
According to A. Sherrod Blakey of CSN Boston, the injury is likely season-ending. Barbosa had to be helped off the court after falling to the floor in pain. He is expected to have an MRI on the knee today, but the team and Barbosa already have a feeling what the outcome will be.
Another player, another season-ending injury. The Celtics have already lost Rondo and Jared Sullinger to season-ending injuries. Now, they will likely lose Barbosa. Yet, the team still clings to a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Thanks to the seven-game winning streak that led up to their loss last night, the Celtics are 27-24 and in seventh place in the conference.
Barbosa, a shooting guard, would likely have been a main part in keeping the Celtics competitive without Rondo. Although Barbosa doesn't generally play a ton of minutes, the Celtics could use him in many different roles. This season, he was averaging 5.2 points per game and 1.4 assists per game.
