The Bulls and Raptors have discussed a trade that would send
Carlos Boozer and Nate Robinson to Toronto in exchange for Andrea Bargnani and
John Lucas III, and the deal is available whenever the Bulls want to make it,
according to K.C. Johnson of The Chicago Tribune.
If the Bulls were to complete the deal, they would fall
under the luxury tax threshold. Johnson notes that Chicago probably doesn’t
want to pay a luxury tax when Derrick Rose could sit out the remainder of the
season to injury.
While this would save the Bulls money, they would also be
sacrificing talent, especially when it comes to rebounding. Bargnani and Boozer
have each averaged about 30 minutes per game this season, and while their
scoring averages are roughly similar, Boozer over five more rebounds per game
than Bargnani despite being three inches shorter.
If Chicago were to trade Boozer, one bright spot would be
more minutes for Taj Gibson. Still, it seems the Bulls are hesitant to make the
move considering it’s been available to them for some time.
