Milwaukee Bucks guard Monta Ellis is expected to decline his
$11 million player option for the 2014 season and become a free agent this
summer, according to Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe.
Fellow Bucks guard Brandon Jennings is also set to become a
restricted free agent this offseason. Washburn reports that the Golden State
Warriors elected to part ways with Ellis, as the team felt it had to decide
between him and Stephen Curry. Milwaukee may be in a similar situation this
summer, deciding between Jennings and Ellis.
The Bucks have said that they’d prefer to keep both players
in the mix beyond this season. Still, it will be interesting to see what path
the club chooses if Ellis does opt out and become a free agent.
Ellis, 27, has averaged 18.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 5.5
assists per game in his second season with the Bucks.
