When Kawhi Leonard left Monday night's game with 1:31 remaining in the fourth quarter, his injury was expected to be a minor one. And it appears the injury is in fact minor. However, the way the injury was suffered is interesting. Leonard may have injured his knee on a nail in the court.
According to Fox Sports Southwest, Leonard believes he cut his knee on a nail that was sticking up on the court. Such is the inherent danger of playing on a hardwood court. However, an injury involving a nail is pretty uncommon. It's not clear whether Leonard will have to miss any time.
"I just hit the hardwood on one of those nails, really hard," Leonard told the San Antonio Express-News. "It busted my knee wide open."The San Antonio Spurs play tonight against the New Orleans Hornets. Leonard will likely be a game-time decision.
Leonard is in his second NBA season. He was drafted out of San Diego State University. So far, Leonard has averaged 9.2 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game. In his career, Leonard has averaged 8.3 points and 5.1 boards.
