Rudy Gay is quickly becoming the hottest trade target this season in the NBA. He has helped the Memphis Grizzlies to a solid record, but the team is thinking long-term. And the Toronto Raptors may help those long-term plans. They are willing to give up young talent for Gay.
According to Marc Stein of ESPN, the Raptors have stepped up and have offered the Grizzlies the best package for Gay. Stein says the package would include Jose Calderon and Ed Davis. The Grizzlies are still considering their options.
Gay has averaged 17.8 points and 5.8 assists per game so far this season. The Grizzlies are firmly in the fourth spot in the Western Conference playoff picture. Gay can certainly help any team he goes to. In his career, Gay has averaged 17.9 points.
The Raptors are looking to quickly overhaul their lineup and become competitors. As it stands, Toronto is eight games under .500 and not likely to make a push this season. Calderon and Davis as trade chips will likely be intriguing for the Grizzlies. Calderon is averaging 10.2 points and 7.8 assists per game. Davis is averaging 8.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
