The Phoenix Suns have failed to be relevant this season. After they lost coach Mike D'Antoni and two stars in Amare Stoudemire and Steve Nash, the team could not keep up with the rest of the league. They may be looking to change that based on their interest in Memphis Grizzlies' forward Rudy Gay.
Rudy Gay has been mentioned in numerous trade rumors this season, but this could be a real fit. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Suns have engaged in talks with the Grizzlies about bringing Gay over. There is still a lot of work to be done if a deal is to be made, but the possibility is there, and it would definitely help Phoenix.
The Suns have been without forward/center Channing Frye because of an enlarged heart discovered this season. In his absence, the team has struggled. Gay could help the team overcome the loss of Frye and give them another athletic wing that can play low as well.
Gay is in his seventh NBA season. He has spent his entire career in Memphis after being drafted out of the University of Connecticut. In his career, Gay has averaged 17.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. So far this season Gay is shooting 40.8% (lower than his career average) and he is still averaging 17.8 points per game.
