His injury delayed the milestone, but Steve Nash has become just the fifth player in NBA history to reach 10,000 assists in a career. He did so last night against the Houston Rockets. Unfortunately for Nash and the Lakers, the mark came in a loss that puts them further out of playoff contention.
Nash played 34 minutes and had 10 assists. He looked a lot like the Nash of old. Nash's injury has made it difficult for him to get back into a rhythm but he is settling back into playing everyday. He has had double-digit assists in six of his eight games since returning from the broken leg.
The other four players to get to 10,000 assists in their career are John Stockton, Jason Kidd, Mark Jackson, and Magic Johnson. Nash has made himself part of some pretty good company. Now if he could find a way to make the Lakers win.
Los Angeles is 15-19 on the season. They are 5-5 in their last 10 games. As it stands now, the Lakers are 11th in the Western Conference and a full four games out of the final playoff spot. They have a lot of work to do going forward.
