Pau Gasol has had a rough year. From poor performances, to injuries, to more poor performances, all with trade rumors sprinkled in. Now, after being benched in the fourth quarter on Friday for the fourth time this season, Gasol could understandably be frustrated. Yet, he won't request a trade.
According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN Los Angeles, Gasol says he will not ask to be traded. Gasol does not want to continue being benched, but he still feels he can fit into coach Mike D'Antoni's system.
"No, oh, that's radical," Gasol said when asked whether he would request a trade following the Lakers' 107-102 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday. "I still believe. I still have faith in what we have. I still have faith that I can be a big part in helping this team succeed. Right now, I'm not being able to do that very often."Gasol has not been the same player as in years past. He is averaging 12.2 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game. In his career, he has averaged 18.5 points per game and 9.2 rebounds. Gasol has battled knee tendinitis all season long.
