Lakers Injury News: Dwight Howard Tears Labrum in Right Shoulder

Los Angeles Lakers' center Dwight Howard now has more problems than just his back. Eric Pincus of the LA Times reports that Howard has suffered a torn labrum in his right shoulder. At first he was only expected to be out a week, but updated reports say he will be out indefinitely. Dwight had first injured his shoulder in the game against the Los Angeles Clippers and aggravated it in the game against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday. His evaluation is expected to be next week.
"I don't need surgery," Howard said. "It should keep me out for a while but [I need] to make sure that I'm cautious, to make sure that I get healthy, that's the most important thing," Howard said.
Howard's expected absence will be placed on a growing list of missed Lakers' games. Furthermore, Pau Gasol has been diagnosed with a concussion and will be out for at least two games.

Dwight Howard's injury raises concerns of his future. Back injuries are no joke but if other injuries start to occur, things could only get worse. Which is a shame because Dwight Howard has defensive talents that are rare in the league nowadays. His dominance is slipping and he and Kobe Bryant haven't been enough to stop the Lakers from having a disappointing season.

There have been rumors about possible confrontations between Kobe and Dwight, however they have been dismissed. If problems do arise, another Dwightmare could arise if things do not turnaround and Dwight does not show commitment to the Lakers. If that happens to be the case, Dwight's value will have dropped immensely due to these recent injuries. Even then, he will have significant trade value if the right team comes along.
