The Washington Wizards were re-invigorated with the return of John Wall last night. The young point guard had missed the entire season to this point with a stress reaction in his knee. He made his return last night, though, and the Wizards made sure it was a triumphant one. They beat the Atlanta Hawks 93-83.
Wall will still need to get himself acclimated to playing full games again, but he showed glimpses of his old self. As Brian Jackson of CSN Washington said last night, Wall was a bit rusty, but he still showed his tardemark explosiveness.
"In the first half there were several occasions where Wall got into the paint but was unable to finish near the basket. But he proved to be a quick study scoring nine of his 14 points in the 2nd half."In total, Wall scored 14 points in 21 minutes of play. He also dished out four assists. Wall came off the bench as he works his way back from the injury. The Wizards do not want to rush him back to the starting lineup.
Wall said after the game that he was just happy to be back.
"That's what I was saying the whole time," Wall said. "To anybody. I was just happy to be playing basketball. To whoever was in my way, that's what I was saying."He will get his next chance to play tomorrow against the Orlando Magic. Wall will likely come off the bench again as he continues to prove himself.
