Despite being diagnosed with a torn labrum in his shoulder, Dwight Howard was able to return to action last night for the Los Angeles Lakers. His teammate, Pau Gasol was not so lucky. Gasol has been trying to recover from a concussion suffered over a week ago. Howard's return, though, sparked the Lakers to victory.
Los Angeles beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 113-93 in Los Angeles last night. Howard played 30 minutes and scored 22 points while pulling down 14 rebounds. It was an impressive performance in his first game back from the injury.
Howard was diagnosed with the injury on January 7th and missed three straight games for the Lakers. The team lost all three games that Howard missed. He has had his ups and downs this season, but Los Angeles needs him on the court if they are going to be successful.
So far this season, Howard has averaged 17.4 points per game and 12.5 rebounds per game. This is his first season with a new team after spending his whole career with the Orlando Magic. In his nine NBA seasons, Howard has averaged 18.4 points and 13.0 rebounds per game.
