While a return to the bench is not the same as returning to the game, it's one step closer. And that's what Derrick Rose is looking at right now. Baby steps. He is getting dangerously close to returning and is nearing his next big step.
According to CBS Chicago, Rose will likely return to the bench in the coming week. He was not on the bench last night, but coach Tom Thibodeau says that as long as Rose's rehab progresses enough, he will join his teammates on the bench.
“He could,” Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau told the Tribune. “He’s still locked into doing some rehab stuff, and that’s the primary focus. Whether he sits on the bench or not, he’s here with us."Rose is running and participating in limited contact practices. He will soon be cleared for full contact practices if all goes well. Then, the final step is returning to the court.
Rose's return will provide the Bulls with a huge boost. He brings instant energy, quick scoring, and he will make his teammates better. Rose has averaged 21.0 points and 6.8 assists per game in his career.
