While the team would have loved to have Shawn Marion on the court, the Dallas Mavericks still pulled off a win over the Houston Rockets without him. Dallas beat Houston 166-109 to get back to .500 on the season. Unfortunately, they had to play without Marion who is still nursing a strained groin.
According to Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News, who reported before the game on Marion's condition, the 34-year old veteran would take it slow in returning from the injury. He suffered the groin strain on Thursday night.
“A groin is something you don’t mess with,” Marion said. “I’m going to take it slow.”Marion has been a key role player for the Dallas Mavericks as they try everything they can to keep the team alive without Dirk Nowitzki. Marion is averaging 9.6 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game. The average points are the lowest in Marion's career, but he is in his 14th season. He could be losing a step, but even if he is, Marion is still productive.
The Mavericks are now 10-10 on the season. They have had to play the entire year so far without Nowitzki who underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair his knee. His recovery has taken longer than expected, and Nowitzki still does not have a timetable for his return. In his absence, players like Marion will have to step up.
