LeBron James is expected to opt out of his contract with the
Miami Heat following next season in hopes of signing another max deal, and
while the chances aren’t great, he will give his former team, the Cleveland
Cavaliers, a close look, according to Jason Lloyd of the Beacon Journal.
And yes, believe it or not, he will give Cleveland a close look. He has a relationship with Irving and Thompson. His new agent, Rich Paul, is a local guy who has long been a close friend. Paul also represents Thompson. A number of pieces are aligning, but the biggest draw is missing.
Lloyd attributes the birthplace of James’ agent and the fact
that the star has relationships with two of the team’s young, up-and-comers,
Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson, as reasons why he would consider returning
to Cleveland.
However, Lloyd also says that the Cavaliers “realistically
must be a playoff team for James to consider them” after next season. This
could prove the challenge, considering Cleveland currently owns one of the worst record in the NBA and isn’t showing signs of significant improvement
during the 2012-13 season.
