The Los Angeles Lakers could get Pau Gasol back today. That in and of itself could be a nice boost for the struggling team. But they could get an even bigger boost as Steve Nash eyes a return. He was able to practice yesterday meaning he is drawing closer to a return to game action.
According to Shahan Ahmed of NBC Southern California, Nash was not expected to practice yesterday, but he did. Ahmed said Nash was able to run and participate in drills, but he has still not been cleared for contact. But his return to practice was encouraging nonetheless.
“Hopefully I can play by Christmas,” Nash said yesterday.Nash has been sidelined since the second game of the season when he suffered a fractured fibula. He is excited about the prospect of returning to the court, but he admitted yesterday that there was still some soreness. When the injury first happened, no one expected Nash to miss this much time. He was initially diagnosed with a shin contusion.
The Lakers need Nash back on the court. Mike D'Antoni has repeatedly told people he wants to see how this team performs under his system with both Nash and Gasol back on the court. The team has struggled without them. The Lakers are 11-14 on the season. They need to go on a run and sustain some success if they are going to even make the playoffs.
Nash will certainly be a boost. He has averaged 14.4 points per game in his career to go along with 8.6 assists per game.
