Lakers Injury News: Steve Nash Looking to Return By Christmas

It's highly possible that Lakers fans would receive a returning Steve Nash as their holiday present this year. A present that all Lakers fans would love to receive should we all survive the "December 21st Apocalypse". For the Lakers, this whole season could be deemed an apocalypse  After obtaining both Dwight Howard and Steve Nash during this off-season to pair with Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol, it had almost been a given that the Lakers would once again challenge the Eastern Conference's best to hoist the Larry O'Brein trophy.

The season has not gone quite as planned.

After starting off the season way below .500, the Lakers fired their coach and replaced him with Mike D'Antoni, who they hoped would revive their offense and team. The loss of Steve Nash and Pau Gasol has the Lakers with a mere 11 - 14 record, not a win-loss ratio that fans would expect from a championship caliber team. At this stage, their wouldn't even make the playoffs.

A Steve Nash return could help rejuvenate this Los Angeles Lakers team. Mike Trudell of the LA Lakers Basketblog reported that Steve Nash had already returned to practice, and that he could return by Christmas time.
It was expected to have Pau Gasol practice on Monday with his teammates, but seeing Steve Nash out there as well was a bit of a surprise.
The veteran point guard – who’s been out since Halloween – participated in a full practice, though the Lakers did not scrimmage or go through full-court contact drills.
“Hopefully I can play by Christmas,” said Nash. “We’ll see how it responds this week. Today we didn’t do any 5-on-5 or contact.”
In response to how his leg was feeling, Nash responded with positive news.
“(My leg has) responded pretty well,” he explained. “I’ve been able to do some jogging, some running, some 1-on-1. Today was the first day actually getting up and down the floor a little bit even though we didn’t (scrimmage). It’s definitely sore, and definitely going to be a process not just to get back to complete health but also get in shape.”
