The Los Angeles Lakers will get a boost this week when Pau Gasol returns to the lineup. Gasol has missed the Lakers last seven games. During that time, the Lakers have gone 2-5. They have struggled all year, but the team hopes that Gasol's return and Steve Nash's eventual return will help spark them to a run and get them back into the playoffs.
According to Kevin Ding of the Orange County Register, Gasol is getting better and could play as soon as Tuesday. Gasol has been recovering from knee tendinitis and has been able to practice and use the treadmill without pain.
Gasol has had a tumultuous season so far. The Lakers' forward has had a down year while battling pain in his knees. He has also been the source of countless trade rumors as the team tries to adjust to Mike D'Antoni's style of coaching.
Gasol is averaging 12.6 points per game this season, much lower than his career average of 18.5. He is also averaging 8.8 rebounds per game which is in line with his career averages. The Lakers will need Gasol's help if they are going to climb out of the hole they've dug for themselves. At 10-14, the Lakers are a full two games behind even the eighth seed in the playoff race. Fortunately for Gasol and Los Angeles, there is still a lot of basketball to be played.
