After lacerating his finger Wednesday night, Carmelo Anthony received five stitches. He was unable to play in the New York Knicks' big win over the Miami Heat, and his status is still unknown for tonight's matchup against the Chicago Bulls. New York was able to take care of Miami without Anthony, but they don't want to make a habit out of playing without their star.
According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, Anthony is listed as day-to-day and will be a game-time decision tonight. Anthony wanted to play Thursday night against the Heat, but after testing the finger, he was ruled out. Teammates think he should allow it to heal a little more before he returns.
"It's just important that he gets some scar tissue before he comes back," Tyson Chandler said. "I think he shouldn't come back until we get back to New York. But we'll see how his finger heals."New York beat Miami by 20 points on Thursday for the second time this season. They have established themselves as the team to beat in the east. Of course, the Heat are still the defending champions and until the playoffs begin, that title will give the something to hang their hats on. However, New York is proving that they are for real.
