Somehow athletes can play through illness better than most of us can even do nothing through illness. They can ignore the lethargic feelings that confine normal people to their beds. They fight fever with rigorous physical activity that would bring the average joe to their knees. And they do it all in front of thousands of other people. Such was the case with Kevin Love last night.
The Minnesota Timberwolves' star carried his team to victory over the Milwaukee Bucks yesterday despite being a game-time decision and struggling through most of the game. Love finished with 15 points and 14 boards. It was a low point total for Love, but it was enough, as the Timberwolves took the game 95-85.
Love had help, of course. But he had help from unlikely sources. Most of the Timberwolves team is out with injuries - or at least it feels that way. However, last night the team got big contributions from Nikola Pekovic and Alexey Shved.
Love is still adjusting to coming back after being sidelined with a broken hand. He broke his hand while doing knuckle push-ups with a trainer, but has played in six games since his return. So far this season, he is averaging 21.7 points per game and 15.3 rebounds per game.
